Faber New Poets Video Diary: Day 4, Hull

by The Thought Fox

‘What really can one say about Hull?’

It’s where Philip Larkin lived and worked for over thirty years, until his death in 1985.  It’s been described by Australian poet Peter Porter as the ‘most poetic city in England’. And it provided the setting for Douglas Dunn’s Terry Street, one of the stand-out collections of the 1970s.

Hull University’s Jubilee Room is the venue for the Faber New Poets on the fourth day of their tour (Thursday 15th October). They’re joined on stage by Faber’s Poetry Editor Matthew Hollis, who takes time off from pizza-making and chauffeuring duties …

There’s also a first meeting with the production team from the BBC’s Culture Show, who’ll be following the poets over the next couple of days.

The tour so far:

Monday: Norwich

Tuesday: Cambridge

Wednesday: Oxford

Next stop: Durham
